Episodes in Focus: The Killer in Me/Salvage
Greetings! It's time for two shiny new Episodes in Focus, as we start a new and (inevitably) final year with Phantasmagoria. Because we're only 10 episodes from the end of BtVS! I know, I can hardly believe it either.

Next week we are looking at The Killer in Me and Salvage. A week of returning characters and unexpected changes. So from Monday your time, get sharing whatever you have to share on these new Episodes in Focus.

Episode in Focus: The Killer in Me
Any nominations for character you least wanted to see resurrected? I'm pretty sure Warren Mears would get a few votes. And looky, looky, here he is. And Willow, not surprisingly, has a problem with that.

Meantime, Giles leads a vision quest to the desert, is suspected of being the First, and turns out to be all too corporeal. So that's okay. Oh, and Buffy has a cold. Possibly not part of the original script. But that's nothing compared with the brain-melting degredation of Spike's chip - the killer within the killer – which leads to our second resurrection of the week, the Initiative caves.

Any guesses for our third unexpected return? That would be the college Wicca circle, closely followed by our fourth: Amy. The ex-rat. And she's not a happy bunny.

Key quote:

SPIKE
Popped another blood vessel, I think. (Buffy hands him a towel; he wipes blood from his nose)
BUFFY
There's gotta be a reason why the chip is going all wonky. Maybe it's related to the trigger or maybe it has something to do with the new soul.
SPIKE
Or maybe I wasn't meant to last this long. One more thing you and I have in common, eh, pet?
BUFFY
Well, we'll fix it. We'll hit serious research mode—
SPIKE
Good. Try Behavioral Modification Software Throughout the Ages.
BUFFY
(sighs) OK. You're right. Not a book thing. It's a phone thing.
SPIKE
Who you gonna call? (Buffy looks at him funny) God, that phrase is never gonna be useable again, is it?

Episode in Focus: Salvage
We left Angel at a tricky, tricky moment. Namely: Angelus is free, Lilah has just been killed and we – the audience – know exactly who killed her, but Team Angel don't. They have to assume it's their former boss, now returned to his soulless killing ways, and (presumably) buddying up with the Beast. And into all that, who does Wesley bring?

That would be Faith. And Wesley has some vampires around to check she's up to performing. Welcome back, Slayer #2.

By the end of the episode, we know two more things. One good (the sun is back). One less so (uh… Cordy? What did you just tell Connor?).

Key quote:

WESLEY
She's here to help.
CORDELIA
Oh, gee, that's great. Oh, wait a sec. Wasn't she convicted of murder and sent to a state correctional facility for like a gazillion years?
FAITH
(smirks) Murder 2, 25 to life, for the record.
CORDELIA
So now you brought psycho slayer out of retirement to kill Angelus?
FAITH
(walks up to Cordelia) Cordelia, you have every right to feel that way about me. You have no reason to trust me, but I don't have loads of time, so why don't we save it until after this is over. Cool? OK, let's get down to it. We're gonna keep this hunting party tight. Gunn, right?
GUNN
Yeah.
FAITH
Love the name. I hear you're a good fighter.
GUNN
I hold my own.
FAITH
That's a shame. You're with me, Wes, and the kid.
CONNOR
The kid has a name.
